Here are the top three stories in East Cobb today:

  1. New Hospital Surveillance data shows fentanyl overdoses are spiking in Cobb County over the last few months — specifically in the 30127 zip code. The Cobb County Government is warning the public that while this spike appears to be associated with street drugs, (including cocaine and pressed pills such as Percocet, contaminated with Fentanyl) using any street drug puts the user at high risk of an overdose. 2. The first Mableton cityhood forum will be held this Wednesday, Aug. 17. Cobb County has organized this community meeting to learn about the proposed City of Mableton that will be on the November ballot. The City of Mableton referendum is the last of four votes on cityhood for various parts of unincorporated Cobb County — previous referendums for the City of East Cobb, the City of Lost Mountain, and the City of Vinings all failed on May 24, 2022. The meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the Cobb County Police Academy. (Cobb County Courier)
  3. On Monday, Tax Commissioner Carla Jackson announced that the 2022 Cobb County property tax bills have been issued. Payments are due on Oct. 15 and must be USPS postmarked or received by the due date to be considered on time. A press release from the Cobb County Government states that "a total of 267,850 tax bills representing $1,099,887,569 was calculated consisting of 252,206 Real Property for $1,027,804,446 and 15,644 Personal Property for $72,083,123."
