Here are the top 3 stories in and around East Cobb today:
- Cobb County commissioners considered changing the county's stormwater management fees during a meeting on Dec. 13. The current arrangement is based on water usage, but Judy Jones, Cobb's water system director, said the model is not reflective of who generates the most runoff. The proposed change would base the stormwater calculation on impervious surfaces instead of water usage. (MDJ Online)
- On Dec. 13, Cobb County commissioners voted unanimously to allow the Cobb County Police Department to enter a three-year contract with Clearview AI to use its face recognition software and access its database. The police department recently updated its policy to add more restrictions in order to mitigate "the community's concerns." (Government Technology)
- The search for Victor Roberts, a missing juvenile justice official from Cobb County, ended on Dec. 13 when Peachtree City police found his body behind the wheel of his SUV. Roberts, the deputy commissioner for the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice, had been missing since Dec. 5, and police said they were told he suffered from memory loss. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating but says so far they have not found any signs of foul play. (Fox 5 Atlanta)
