Cobb Man Gets 50 Years for Enticing, Molesting Girl

Jorge Renberto Ventura tearfully pleaded for mercy and insisted he was innocent, though he also admitted this was not the first time he was in trouble with police for being involved with an underage girl.

Staff Report

According to Cobb District Attorney Vic Reynolds, a Marietta man will be going to prison for child molestation.

Jorge Renberto Ventura, 28, was convicted Thursday afternoon of two counts of child molestation, and one count of enticing a child for indecent purposes, for preying on a 13-year-old girl at her Marietta home last summer.

The girl testified that she met Ventura through Facebook, and that about 6 p.m. on Aug. 5, 2013, he came to her house, forced her into her bedroom, then opened her pants and touched her inappropriately. He ran out the back door when her father came home.

“This defendant gained the trust of this young girl, then used that trust to gain access to her home, and ultimately, her body,” Assistant District Attorney Susan Treadaway said in a statement. “There are no more despicable acts than these.”

At the sentencing hearing Friday morning, Ventura tearfully pleaded for mercy and insisted he was innocent, though he also admitted this was not the first time he was in trouble with police for being involved with an underage girl. He also has a 2010 felony conviction for terroristic threats in Cobb, and was sentenced today as a recidivist.

Cobb Superior Court Judge LaTain Kell ultimately sentenced Ventura to 50 years, with 30 years to serve in custody. Upon his release Ventura will be required to register as a sex offender.
