Cobb, Marietta Unemployment Rates Decline
The drop matches the decrease in the statewide unemployment rate, which was released last week.

EAST COBB, GA -- Both Cobb County and Marietta’s unemployment rates decreased between October and November, data released from the Georgia Department of Labor Thursday show.
According to the figures, unemployment in Marietta dropped from 5.1 to 4.6 percent in November. 34,081 people were in Marietta’s workforce in November, compared to 34,049 in October. Only 1,579 workers were jobless in November, compared to 1,735 in October. The city’s unemployment rate in November 2014 was 6.1 percent.

Cobb County’s overall unemployment rate declined from 4.8 to 4.4 percent, according to GDOL. In November, the county’s workforce was 396,208 strong compared to 395,589. 17,483 were out of work in November, compared to 19,050 in October. In November 2014, the county unemployment rate sat at 5.5 percent.

The statewide unemployment rate dropped by a tenth of a percent to 5.6 in November, GDOL announced last week. The unemployment rate in November of 2014 was 6.7 percent.
“Our employers created 3,700 jobs in November, which helped push the unemployment rate down to its lowest point since March 2008,” said State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler in a statement.
Butler added that the state’ job growth rate of 2.2 percent is higher than the national average of 1.9 percent.
