- As the time draws nigh for the Board of Commissioners to consider, and settle, on a 2024 fiscal year operating budget for Cobb County, Chairwoman Lisa Cupid remains coy on the possibility of a mileage rate cut. Cupid spoke to the East Cobb Civic Association on Wednesday, May 31, delivering a few remarks on fund appropriation for different projects, stating that she "can't say" whether or not a mileage rate reduction will be part of the operating budget or not. The budget must be approved and finalized by the end of July and will go into effect Oct. 1. (East Cobb News)
- Cobb County school board candidate Laura Judge, originally from Long Island, N.Y., is running as a Democrat, and states "I'm not looking for radical change. I want to see our county continue to grow. Things are changing a lot faster for some people that they are uncomfortable with." Running in Post 5, historically a Republican subdivision, Judge considers herself a moderate and wants to ensure that everyone in the community is heard in the public schools. If elected, quote: "I would like to think that would change more voices to be heard." (East Cobb News)
- Cobb County Drug Treatment Court celebrated National Drug Court Month this past May, including a Breakfast-on-the-Run event on Monday, May 15, sponsored by East Cobb Church, and a group outing to a Braves game on Sunday, May 21. Quote presiding Judge Kimberly A. Childs: "Through the efforts of our dedicated team and with the continued support of our stakeholders, the Cobb County Drug Treatment Court transforms the courtroom into a place of hope and healing. Instead of punishment, we offer evidence-based treatment and compassion to foster a lifetime of sobriety." (Cobb County)
