District 6 Race: Early Voting Bodes Well For Ossoff
BREAKING: Democrats come out in force on first day of early voting, according to NYT data analysis.
EAST COBB, GA -- Early voter turnout in Georgia’s 6th Congressional District is turning out quite well for the Democrats, according to news reports. That's good news for Democratic candidate Jon Ossoff, the frontrunner in the race to represent the 6th District, which encompasses swaths of Cobb, Fulton and DeKalb counties.
Early voting began Monday in Georgia's 6th District race to replace former Congressman Tom Price, who left the seat to serve as the Secretary of Health and Human Services in the Trump Administration.
According to an analysis from the New York Times elections expert Nate Cohn, Democrats came out in force on the first day of voting, which could be an omen for the district.

Cohn tweeted this week that Democrats outvoted Republicans 60 to 28 on the first day of 6th District voting, a stark contrast to how it was during the November 2016 elections, when GOP voters doubled the Dems. Cohn retrieved the data from public voter files.

Of course, one day does not define voting trends or equate to election results, but it is an early indicator of the drawing power Ossoff has. The 30-year-old first-time candidate has garnered the support of political luminaries with much sway in the state, including former Gov. Roy Barnes and Congressman John Lewis.
In the latest poll, Ossoff increased his lead to about 40 percent while former Republican Secretary of State Karen Handel is barely holding off former Johns Creek City Councilman Bob Gray.

Democrats are hoping that a strong anti-Trump sentiment can help them "flip the 6th" and put a blue-state politician in the seat which has been strongly Republican for the last two decades.
Eighteen candidates are competing in the District 6 special election, which will be held on April 18. If necessary, a runoff election will take place on June 20.
