We met East Cobb resident Joe O’Connor after the Board of Commissioners’ afternoon work session Tuesday, and we look forward to his efforts in the next 16 months or so to get people to vote in the 2012 elections. We hope O’Connor will use East Cobb Patch as one of the key outlets in his Vote America campaign, but in the meantime, here’s a good Marietta Daily Journal article on his plans. Speaking of East Cobbers doing good, look for alum Laura Bohnhoff Whitaker, the director of the Extra Special People camp in Watkinsville, to appear on HLN’s “Leaders with Heart” segment this morning between 9 and 9:30. 4. East Cobb school board member Scott Sweeney is speaking to the East Cobb Civic Association at its monthly meeting tonight at 7 at the . Perhaps everyone’s favorite school topic, , will come up, as well as the hiring of Cobb County’s new superintendent, , who officially takes over in a couple of days. We’ll have a report Thursday.

The recent battle over charter schools in Georgia, leading to Tuesday’s decision by the state Board of Education to approve charters for the new Cherokee Charter Academy and 10 other schools, has increased the focus on the issue of school choice.
