East Side Elementary to 'Walk to School'
The East Cobb school will take part in next week's "Safe Route to School" observance.

From a press release sent by the East Side Elementary PTA:
East Side Elementary in Cobb County will welcome spring by participating in Georgia Walk to School Day on Wednesday, March 6.
Approximately 300 students and their families, will start walking or bicycling to school at 7 a.m., with walking school buses and bicycle trains arriving at school by 7:50 a.m. Once at school, prizes will be handed out.
East Side joins East Cobb schools and schools across Georgia that are participating in the event.

Sponsored by the Georgia Department of Transportation’s Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Resource Center, Georgia Walk to School Day complements International Walk to School Day held each fall.
“Georgia Walk to School Day continues to be a flagship spring event for SRTS. We have so many schools participate year after year and welcome all of the schools participating for the first time,” said Patti Sistrunk, Georgia Safe Routes to School Resource Center Manager. “The Resource Center website and School Outreach Coordinators have great materials and tools to make events a success.”

Pedestrian safety bookmarks will be distributed to all kindergarten students.
East Side is a gold Level Partner with the Georgia Safe Routes to School Resource Center. The school’s Safe Routes to School program includes several walk to school days throughout the year.
Walking School Bus backpacks with reflective vests, flashlights, stop signs and first aid kits, were purchased with a grant.
