  1. Former Cobb Commission Chairman Mike Boyce was buried at Arlington Cemetary on Thursday, Aug. 11. Boyce, a retired marine, died in January after suffering two strokes. Boyce, 72, lived in East Cobb after transitioning to civilian life. Cobb County Manager Jackie McMorris and Cobb Commissioner JoAnn Birrell were among those representing the county. (East Cobb News)
  2. The Music Studio Atlanta is gearing up for a second location in East Cobb this September. The studio offers music lessons to youths and adults and will be located at the Pavilions of East Lake Shopping Center. Starting today (Aug. 14), there will be a continuous open house until the formal opening. (East Cobb News)
  3. According to the Cobb County Police Department, an apparent murder/suicide took place at a Marietta address, just 20 minutes southwest of East Cobb. On the morning of Saturday, Aug. 13, a 911 dispatcher received a call reporting gunshots fired. When officers arrived, they discovered a man and woman, identified as 19-year-olds Eduardo Landaverde and Crystal Mendez, dead at the scene with apparent gunshot wounds. At the time of this writing, the investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to phone detectives at 770-499-3945. (Cobb County Courier)
