Summer Heat and Rain? Inconceivable!
Here's what you need to know to start the day July 7.

1. You know the drill this week: It will be hot and sunny with a high near 90 degrees and a risk of showers and thunderstorms rolling through between 2 and 8 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. We’re on watch for isolated severe thunderstorms. The chance of rain is 30 percent. The overnight low will be about 71.
2. The two Little League tournaments continue today at Sewell Park. In the 12-year-old District 2 tournament, host East Marietta plays Milford at 6 p.m. on Field 3, and Smyrna plays Murphey Candler Gold on the same field at 8. In the Northwest Georgia 9-year-old tournament on Field 1, Cartersville and Murphey Candler Gold play at 6 p.m., and East Marietta plays Murphey Candler Blue at 8.
3. One of the finest movies of the 1980s, The Princess Bride, is the featured film for the free Movies at the Galleria series at the gardens at the Cobb Galleria Centre. It’s a free movie, free popcorn and free parking, starting around 8:30 p.m. Say hello to Inigo Montoya for us.

4. WSB-TV reports that the Heroes & Champions Camp, scheduled to start today at the University of Georgia, has been canceled without warning and without word on when or whether families will receive refunds for the four-day camp, which charged $325 to $375. Both the website and Facebook page for the camp appear to have been removed. The camp had advertised itself on East Cobb Patch’s calendar, and we’re sorry if the event listing here led you to lose money on the camp. If we find out more about what happened, we’ll let you know.
5. The state Department of Education released school-by-school results on the CRCTs Wednesday, and we’re working to make the data as local and as easy to understand as possible. Creating the charts is taking longer than we hoped, but East Cobb Patch should have a full story packed with useful charts later today or Friday. In the meantime, here’s The Marietta Daily Journal’s look at the results from a countywide perspective, and here’s the state announcement with links to all the data. we had about the county results.
