Isakson Senior Plans Presented in East Cobb

Tonight's East Cobb Civic Association meeting begins at 7 at the East Cobb Government Service Center.

The first public presentation of Isakson Living's plans for a high-density senior residential complex adjacent to East Cobb Park will be held tonight.

Kevin Isakson, director of sales and marketing for Isakson Living, is the featured speaker at the East Cobb Civic Association meeting. It gets underway at 7 p.m. at the East Cobb Government Service Center at 4400 Lower Roswell Road.

Isakson, the son of U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson, and his uncle Andy are the leading partners in the proposed $200 million facility.

The project would consist of nearly 1,000 residential units, most of them for independent living, on a 54-acre tract next to East Cobb Park that is currently owned by Wylene Tritt.

Some nearby residents have raised concerns about the project's density as well as traffic flow.

Isakson Living's rezoning request -- from R-20 residential to continuing care retirement community -- was initially scheduled to be taken up in August.

But District 2 Cobb commissioner Bob Ott said that Cobb zoning staff is recommending that the request be continued until October.

Because of the scale of the Isakson project, it also requires responses from the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority and the Atlanta Regional Commission.

"This proposal is still evolving and is not ready to be heard by the Planning Commission and Board of Commissioners," Ott said in his weekly e-newsletter.

East Cobb Civic Association president Jill Flamm said her group has not taken a position on the Isakson Living proposal, but is seeking information.
