Marietta is experiencing an unusual string of vandalism as Daniel Coicou is alleged to have gone on a rampage, throwing rocks through the windows of more than a dozen businesses, resulting in damages surpassing $6,000. Taper Barbershop and a Mazda dealership were notably impacted, with the dealership reporting damaged car windows as well. 2. The Cobb County Board of Commissioners announced its intention to raise property taxes by 18.02 percent in the County Maintenance & Operations Fund, citing the ongoing resurgence of the area's real estate market as the reason. In compliance with Georgia state law, the board has set three public hearings on July 11, 18, and 25 for citizens to share their views on the proposed tax rates. Following the final hearing on July 25, the board will formally establish the 2023 Property Tax Millage Rates for its five tax districts, encompassing General, Fire, and Debt Service among others. In a novel approach to recruitment, the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office is organizing a family-centric hiring event on Jul. 8 at Cobb County Safety Village in Marietta, offering both a chance for applicants to undergo physical agility tests and an array of entertainment options for their families. From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., attendees can enjoy food trucks, live music, inflatable play areas, face painting, backpack giveaways, and showcases of cutting-edge gear, while also meeting members of the S.W.A.T., mounted patrol, and K-9 teams.
