Here are the top three stories today in East Cobb:
- Now through Sep. 18, the YMCA of Metro Atlanta is offering free one-day guest passes. The YMCA is offering free passes as part of its Welcoming Week and is waiving the joining fees for those who register to become a member. The three branches in Cobb County are the McCleskey-East Cobb Family YMCA at 1055 East Piedmont Rd and the Northeast Cobb Family YMCA at 3010 Johnson Ferry Rd, both in Marietta, along with the Northwest Family YMCA at 1700 Dennis Kemp Lane NW in Acworth. - Have your eye on a certain property in East Cobb? Here's a list of all the deeds for residential East Cobb real estate sales that were filed from Aug. 22-26 with the Cobb Superior Court Clerk’s Office Real Estate Department. - Over the weekend, two Cobb County motorists were killed in separate single-car crashes. On Saturday night, 30-year-old Marquis Lamar Colenburg of Mableton died after he lost control of his car and crashed into a tree on Six Flags Parkway, just west of the intersection with Queensferry Drive. On Sunday night, 28-year-old Miguel A. Ramirez of Marietta lost control of the vehicle near Shiloh Drive and crashed into several trees on the western shoulder before being ejected from the vehicle and back onto the roadway. Ramirez was pronounced deceased on the scene by Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office personnel. Both crashes are under investigation; investigators believe speed was a major contributing factor in both collisions. (Cobb County Courier)

The morning included a moment of silence for the fallen Cobb County Sheriff deputies, recognition of National Hispanic Heritage Month, a celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Air Force, and an insightful presentation on "The New Georgia Economy" from the Georgia Chamber of Commerce's Chris Clark. - Award-winning, national bestselling author Margaret Johnson-Hodge is returning to South Cobb Regional Library with her popular Get Your Story Written Writing Workshop, designed for all levels.
