More Than 100 Teachers In Cobb, Marietta Honored By Cobb Chamber

COBB COUNTY, GA — The 2021 Teachers of the Year in Cobb and Marietta school districts got a special recognition from the Cobb County Chamber of Commerce last week for the first time since 2019.

The Give Our Schools a Hand event has been put on by the chamber every year since 1989, excluding 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Plaques were given to the Teachers of the Year for Cobb County School District's 112 schools and Marietta City Schools' 12 schools, the Marietta Daily Journal reported.

The annual celebration also included the two districtwide Teachers of the Year having their handprints planted in Marietta Square.

Cobb Schools' Teacher of the Year was Beth Foster, a history/civics teacher at Osborne High School, while MCS' Teacher of the Year was Laura Floryance, a first grade teacher at Sawyer Road Elementary School.

Not only did they receive plaques, they also earned free, one-year leases on new cars courtesy of the local Ed Voyles dealerships, which they'll get to pick up at the chamber luncheon Nov. 8, East Cobb News reported. Insurance is also covered by Ed Voyles.

If one of the two teachers becomes the Georgia Teacher of the Year, they'll get to keep the car, according to the MDJ.
