More Than A Week Later, Cobb County Certifies Primary Results
The tally was delayed by a record number of absentee ballots — more than half the total number cast.
MARIETTA, GA — Cobb County’s election primary results finally are official.
The Marietta Daily Journal reported that the Cobb County Board of Elections certified the results Friday afternoon, by a 4-0 vote. Board member Darryl Wilson was absent.
According to the newspaper, the final results of the June 9 primary hadn’t been available until the last 24 hours, thanks to a record turnout and a huge number of absentee ballots.

About 36 percent of Cobb’s 518,000 eligible voters cast ballots. Of those ballots, more than half — about 107,000 — were absentee. Cobb County’s previous record for absentee ballots was about 44,000 in the 2008 general election.
Nineteen Cobb County precincts stayed open an extra hour for the primary because of “various issues,” according to a county spokesperson.
