Plans For New Northeast Cobb Police Precinct Advance, Groundbreaking Set In December
Cobb commissioners approved a contract for design work on a new police precinct in the northeastern portion of the county.
EAST COBB, GA — A new Cobb County Police Department precinct is coming to the northeastern portion of the county.
Last week, the Cobb County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a design and construction contract for the creation of a new police precinct — Precinct 6 — at the intersection of Gordy Parkway and Sandy Plains Road, near the Mountain View Aquatic Center.
Precinct 6, a 2016 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax project, will break ground Dec. 1, according to Commissioner JoAnn Birrell. Birrell represents the area that encompasses the future Precinct 6.

Batson-Cook Construction was awarded a $723,000 contract for the project, which is budgeted to cost $5 million total.
Police precincts 1 and 4 currently patrol most of the East Cobb area, located on Cobb Parkway and Lower Roswell Road, respectively. Public Safety Director Randy Crider told the Marietta Daily Journal that officers from each of those precincts will likely be moved to the new facility.

Once the precinct is complete, it will serve only as the home of CCPD's special operations unit at first, and would not have a patrol zone, but that is expected to change in the future, East Cobb News reported. The precinct is planned to one day have its own unit of patrol officers.
