Operation Ernest: A Community Cry for Adoption
Good Mews to pay & provide future medical care in relation to Ernest's FeLV condition, even after adoption
The story of Ernest...
Hello everyone. My name is Ernest. So I am told I am a special case here at Good Mews. It is extremely rare that they would have a cat like me, so I guess that’s what makes me special? Really, I just feel different than the other cats. I don’t get to live with them, and I have to be in foster care. It kind of hurts my feelings, but what can they do? Anyway, why I am special is because I have Feline Leukemia (FeLV). This means I have a weakened immune system and it increases susceptibility to other diseases. While there is no cure, I can still live a great life for several years.
The reason I can’t live at the shelter is that it is very contagious to other cats (not humans or dogs). There are very few rescues that can take FeLV cats, so a lot of us never get a chance, and we lose our lives, which isn’t fair. Good Mews normally can’t take FeLV cats either because there is nowhere to house them. But since I was abandoned, in a box, and someone found me and brought me to Good Mews, they committed to me, and for that, I am so thankful. I had to stay in a cage for a few weeks then a foster home opened up for me, and now here I am!

So now I am asking for your help. I desperately need a home. Foster parents are leaving town in a few days, which means I have to go back to the shelter, in a cage, and away from other cats. I really don’t want that. I love walking around, playing with toys, sitting in cat trees, looking out the window.
Please help me find my family. I know some people would be scared to take on a FeLV cat because of future vet expenses, but they don’t have to worry about that! I am a HALO cat which means Good Mews will continue to provide medical care related to my condition. I already had a dental, so that is taken care of! So if you are looking for a single cat or you already have a FeLV kitty or two that needs a pal, please consider me! I may not be “perfect,” but I want love too. I want a family, just like everyone else.
