Oudin Wins U.S. Open

The East Cobb tennis player takes the mixed-doubles title with Jack Sock.

East Cobb tennis sensation Melanie Oudin since making her two years ago, but now she can say something few players can: I’m a U.S. Open champion.

The 19-year-old won the mixed-doubles title with 18-year-old American Jack Sock on Friday night, beating the eighth-seeded team of Gisela Dulko and Eduardo Schwank of Argentina, 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 10-8 (tiebreaker).

Oudin and Sock’s combined age of 37 appears to tie for the youngest pair to win the U.S. Open mixed-doubles title, The New York Times’ Straight Sets blog reported.

Oudin and Sock, who had not played together before the U.S. Open, were unseeded and needed a wild card to enter the tournament. They upset the top-seeded defending champions, Bob Bryan and Liezel Huber, in the second round.
