An 85-year-old sex offender has been arrested on child pornography charges after employees at a Marietta Starbucks found such images on a cell phone left behind at the coffee shop last week, according to a warrant.

Carl Alfred Iverson, who turned 85 last month, accidentally left his cell phone at the Whitlock Street Starbucks on Sept. 23. The warrant states that when employees went through the phone attempting to find the owner’s contact information, they discovered child pornography instead.

Marietta police were called, and Iverson was brought in for questioning when he came to the coffee shop the next day to get his phone back, the warrant says.

According to the warrant, Iverson described the phone to an interviewing officer and admitted the phone had images of child porn on it; a subsequent search warrant discovered eight such images on the phone, including one depicting a six-year-old boy sexually involved with an adult male.

In April, Iverson pleaded guilty to a computer pornography charge stemming from a 2014 indictment which claims Iverson attempted to seduce an undercover Kennesaw police detective who was posing as a 14-year-old girl online, Cobb Superior Court documents show.

Iverson was sentenced to 10 years, with 30 days to serve in jail and the rest on probation; as a condition of his guilty plea, Iverson was placed on the sex offender registry and agreed to stop using the internet except under direct supervision and only for paying car insurance bills, online banking, and dealing with the VA, according to court documents.

Iverson is being held without bond at the Cobb County jail on eight charges of sexual exploitation of children, jail records show.
