Sewer Line Fails, Overflows Into Cobb County Creek

County officials said more than 150,000 gallons of sewage spilled into Sewell Mill Creek after a sewer line failed Friday.

MARIETTA, GA — Authorities warned residents to avoid a Cobb County creek after a sewer line failed Friday, causing more than 150,000 gallons of sewage to overflow into the waterway.

According to county authorities, a sewer line near 1211 Pimlico Ct. in Marietta experience a structural failure Friday. The failure resulted in an overflow into Sewell Mill Creek just upstream from East Cobb Park.

Authorities said about 152,750 gallons of sewage spilled into the creek.

According to county officials, crews installed a bypass pump to stop the overflow.

County officials notified the Georgia Environmental Protection Division, and Cobb County Water System employees are following environmental protocols, including monitoring bacteria levels in the creek.

Until crews complete testing, residents should avoid exposure to Sewell Mill Creek at and south of East Cobb Park.
