Walton, Pope Cruise into Final Four

Both volleyball teams are two wins away from repeating their state championships.

Neither nor has dropped a single set while rolling through the first three rounds of the Georgia High School Association volleyball playoffs.

In the AAAAA state playoffs, top-seeded Walton's latest victory came at home Saturday against East Coweta. The Lady Raiders won 25-11, 25-8, 25-10.

Eighth-seeded East Coweta was simply overmatched by the defending AAAAA champions, the Newnan Times-Herald reported.

Awaiting Walton, now 26-8, in the state semifinals is No. 4 seed , which beat , 3-2, on Saturday. The teams will play at in Lilburn on Wednesday; the other semifinal that night pits against .

Pope was just as dominant in the quarterfinals of the AAAA state playoffs, crushing eighth-seeded Rockdale County, 25-12, 25-4, 25-5, to raise its record to 41-2 for the season, according to Georgia Prep Country. One of Pope's ; the other was to Sandy Creek, the No. 1 seed in the AAA state tournament.

The rout led Rockdale's coach to say he'll be shocked if the top-seeded Lady Greyhounds don't win their second consecutive state AAAA championship this week, the Rockdale News reported.

Pope's Final Four opponent Wednesday will be McIntosh. The match will be part of a doubleheader at Mount Zion High in Jonesboro; the other semifinal features No. 2 seed and No. 3 Whitewater.
