Here are the top three stories today in East Cobb:

  1. The former East Cobb Tavern space will soon become Westfield Tavern. The location at the Shallowford Corners Shopping Center is getting closer to opening after Cobb commissioners approved to grant a beer, wine, liquor, and Sunday pouring license to the establishment. Managing partner Erik Tierney said they are waiting on a few other things and are in the process of hiring staff before they can officially open tavern doors. (East Cobb News)
  2. The Master Gardener Volunteers of Cobb County held their annual "Blessing Bag" event this month. The group of volunteers put together over 150 bags to be donated to nonprofits 7 Bridges Recovery Center and Sope for Hope containing toiletries, snacks, socks, gloves, hats, and more. Blankets and tarps were donated as well. (East Cobb News)
  3. As of Sunday, two East Cobb school boys basketball teams were ranked No. 1 despite losses last week. Wheeler is 4-0 in the state – 9-6 overall – and lost to Bishop Gorman of Las Vegas on Saturday. Mount Bethel Christian lost to Paideia (No. 6) 46-43 on Friday bringing the East Cobb school's record to 13-5. (Subscription: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
