EAST COBB, GA — After initially expecting a Sept. 29 opening of the bridge over Willeo Creek — and then again Dec. 20 — Cobb County officials said the bridge won't reopen until spring 2022.

Construction on completely replacing the bridge has been ongoing since June, and crews originally planned to reopen the bridge Sept. 29. Bad weather and unexpected conditions under the bridge caused the bridge reopening to be delayed to Dec. 20, East Cobb News reported.

But with Dec. 20 fast approaching and crews still working, Cobb County Department of Transportation said the bridge will now reopen in March 2022.

"Baldwin Paving Company, Inc., the contractor for the Willeo Road over Willeo Creek project, will be unable to reopen the bridge to traffic on Dec. 20, 2021 as the county previously expected," DOT officials said. "The county is pursing every option to expedite the project, including leveraging fines for the delays."

Further reasons for the second delay were not provided. Drivers can head east on Roswell Road, then south on Willeo Road to get to that area.
