Curry Resigns Loganville Council Post, Kiddoo Voted Vice Mayor

Acting Loganville Mayor Dan Curry resigned his post on the council, effective Monday, April 15, 2013, to run for the seat vacated by former Mayor Ray Nunley.  After accepting the resignation of Nunley, who was diagnosed with cancer in November last year, a special election was called last month to fill the unexpired term of his office. 

Following Curry's resignation, which he announced at Thursday's City Council meeting, a Special Election was called to fill the unexpired term of Curry's council post. As the sitting vice mayor at the time of Nunley's resignation, Curry was serving as acting mayor. Since his resignation would have effectively left the city without anyone on the top of the ticket, the council voted unanimously to elect Councilman Mark Kiddoo to serve as vice mayor. He will head the council until such time as a new mayor is seated.

Special Election

So far Curry is the only person who has thrown his hat into the ring for the mayor's post. The qualifying period will be from 8:30 a.m. on Monday, April 15 and remain open until noon on Wednesday, April 17. The qualifying fee is $360. The position was up for re-election in November, so whoever wins the mayor's seat in the Special Election will have to run again in November for the next full four-year term. According to Loganville officials, if nobody else qualifies for mayor by 12 noon on April 17, it is likely that Curry will be sworn in immediately to serve the remaining months of Nunley's term.

Qualifying for the Special Election for Curry's seat on the council will be from 8:30 a.m. Monday, April 22 until noon on April 24. The fee for the office of Loganville council is $180. Curry's term is up at the end of 2015, so whoever is elected will serve until that time.
