Man Accused Of Leaving Kids In 2 Attempted Carjackings In Gwinnett: Report

The man was accused of leaving two children, ages 4 and 8, at a crash to attempt two carjackings in a nearby parking lot, a report says.

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — A 37-year-old man is accused of leaving his two children at the scene of a crash to run across the road in an effort to carjack two people Sunday in a grocery store parking lot, WSB-TV reported Tuesday.

Police accused Michael Terrell of abandoning his 4-year-old and 8-year-old at a crash at Buford Drive and Old Peachtree Road, the news outlet reported, citing police. The children were reportedly not injured.

After the unsuccessful carjackings, Terrell reportedly ran to a nearby gas station, where he was arrested. A gun was found in his vehicle, and cocaine was found on his person, WSB-TV reported.

Gwinnett County Jail records on Tuesday showed Terrell was arrested on charges of willful obstruction of law enforcement officers, criminal trespass unlawful purpose, hijacking a motor vehicle, reckless conduct, possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a felony, hit and run, driving on divided highway-controlled access road, following too closely, simple assault by placing another in fear, possession of cocaine, driving under the influence, transporting a child in a passenger vehicle without restraint and DUI-child endangerment.

He was awarded bond on all charges, excluding the hijacking charge, jail records showed.
