Gwinnett Woman Charged With Murder In Step-Daughter's Killing

The 8-year-old girl was found dead at a Vine Springs Trace home, police said.

BETHLEHEM, GA — A 34-year-old woman accused of killing her 8-year-old step-daughter is facing murder and other charges, Gwinnett County Police said Wednesday.

Officers responded around 2:15 p.m. Tuesday to Vine Springs Trace, where they found the girl dead at the scene, police said.

The girl had suffered an unknown medical emergency, and when the father arrived to the home, he found the child unresponsive and attempted to provide CPR, police said. He then notified authorities.

Police did not say how the girl died. A motive is unknown.

Police said Natiela Barros, of Bethlehem, was charged on suspicion of first-degree cruelty to children, aggravated assault, felony murder and malice murder. Barros remained incarcerated Wednesday, jail records show.
