• Gwinnett County teen charged with murder of Uber driver (wgauradio.com) — A Lawrenceville teen from Gwinnett County has been charged as an adult after police say he carjacked and fatally shot an Uber driver on Groveland Parkway early New Year’s Day. Investigators credit Flock license-plate cameras and cooperation from Uber with quickly locating the suspect and vehicle in Lilburn, while the company expressed condolences and support for the ongoing investigation.

• DeKalb County police officer loses everything in Norcross apartment fire: 'Everything was covered in soot' (fox5atlanta.com) — A Norcross apartment fire battled by Gwinnett County firefighters just before Christmas displaced nearly 40 residents and destroyed the home of DeKalb County Officer Tiaja Gilliam. She credits working fire alarms with saving lives and says the loss has deepened her empathy for people she’ll encounter on future calls as the community rallies to help her rebuild.
