Suspect in Snellville Stabbing Death Awaits Extradition

Stephen O'Reilly, 24, turned himself in to police in Escambia County, Fla. He is suspected in the homicide of Brent Francis, his roommate, on March 30.

Stephen O'Reilly, 24, turned himself in on April 1 in Florida, after a nationwide manhunt was conducted over the weekend, according to Gwinnett Police.

O'Reilly is suspected in the stabbing death of Brent Francis March 30 in Snellville.

On March 30, Gwinnett County Police Department officers were dispatched to a homicide at 2467 Hurndon Road in unincorporated Snellville a little after noon.

When officers arrived, they found Francis, 28, suffering from multiple stab wounds. Before dying from his wounds at Gwinnett Medical Center, he told police that his roommate, O’Reilly, was the man who had attacked him.  

Police said O’Reilly fled the scene in Francis’ vehicle, a black 1994 Toyota Camry. Detectives obtained a murder warrant against O’Reilly based on Francis’ statement and evidence collected at the scene.

On April 1, 2013, O’Reilly turned himself in to officers in Escambia County, Fla.; the stolen vehicle was found in Pensacola. O'Reilly is awaiting extradition and transport back to Gwinnett County.

The motive is still under investigation, according to Gwinnett County Police.  

This is the second homicide in Snellville this year.
