Cherokee Schools Won't Let Children Go Hungry During Summer

The Cherokee County School District is participating in the USDA's Seamless Summer Feeding Program.

Just because it's summer time doesn't mean less fortunate Cherokee County children will run the risk of going hungry.

The CherokeeΒ County School District is once again participating in the United States Department of Agriculture's Seamless Summer Feeding Program.Β 

The program provides meals at no cost to children during the summer break, according to a press release from the school district.Β

Any child 18 or younger can receive a free breakfast and/or lunch at either of the eight locations operated by the school district. There are no income or registration requirements to receive the meals.Β 

β€œWe work diligently to ensure we serve meals to as many children as we can through the summer,” Cherokee School Nutrition Supervisor Susan Turner said.Β  β€œWe take meals out into the community in an attempt to reach as many children as we can.”

Students can get breakfast and lunch at:

  • YMCA Canton:Β May 29 - July 26, BreakfastΒ 8 to 8:15 a.m., LunchΒ 11 to 11:25 a.m.
  • YMCA Woodstock:Β May 29 - July 26, BreakfastΒ 8 to 8:20 am, LunchΒ 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
  • Teasley Middle School:Β June 3 – 21, BreakfastΒ 8 to 8:15 a.m., LunchΒ 11 to 11:15 a.m.
  • Canton Elementary School:Β June 11 – 21, BreakfastΒ 8:05 to 8:15 a.m., LunchΒ 10:45 to 11 a.m.
  • Woodstock High School:Β June 3 – 21, BreakfastΒ 7:45 to 8:05 a.m., LunchΒ Noon to 12:20 p.m.

Lunch-only meals are served at:

  • Shadowood Mobile Home Community (Bells Ferry Road, Acworth):Β May 29 - July 26, LunchΒ 10:45 to 11:20 a.m.
  • East Gate Mobile Home Community (Bells Ferry Road, Acworth):Β May 29 - July 26, Lunch11:30 to 11:45 a.m.Β 
  • Cherokee High School:Β July 9 – 18, LunchΒ 11 to 11:15 a.m.

During the school year,Β CCSDΒ serves around 31,000 mealsΒ daily, and more thanΒ 32%Β are provided at free or reduced prices through the USDA's School Breakfast Program and National School Lunch Program.Β 

More thanΒ 2,200 locations across the state will participate in the Seamless Summer Option. Β
