Tom Cruise Movie Looking For Background Actors in Ball Ground
Filming for "Mena" is expected to start in mid-May in northern Cherokee County.

A Doug Liman film starring Tom Cruise is looking for paid background actors in Atlanta, Ball Ground and its surrounding areas.
The filming of βMenaβ will begin mid-May and last through July, according to the Georgia TV and Film Production Help Wanted Hotline, which is managed by the Georgia Department of Economic Development.
This is a period film set in the U.S. and South America in the 1970s and 1980s, so the casting company is specifically looking for βmen and women with non-contemporary looksβ:

- People to portray βSouth American typesβ
- Military and government types
- Minors aged 1 to 17 years old
- People with cars in good to great condition and were made between 1975 and 1983
- Ball Ground βtownspeopleβ to portray residents aged 18 to 80 years old

Residents are asked to visit Central Castingβs website to send in online submissions. Mena stars Cruise as Barry Seal, a TWA pilot turned drug smuggler for the Medellin cartel.

Seal was later recruited to provide intelligence for the DEA and CIA, and was later killed in 1986, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Ball Ground City Manager Eric Wilmarth previously said the main filming location will be on Gilmer Ferry Road between Civic Drive and Old Canton Road. He also said crews also plan to film in several other locations around the city, as well as other parts of Cherokee County, Pickens County and Roswell.
