Here are the top stories today in Johns Creek:
- According to authorities, two men attacked in a shooting in nearby Atlanta early in the morning of May 31 took themselves to the hospital and are expected to make a complete recovery. The shooting on Lakewood Avenue was reported to police around 12:15 a.m. on May 31, and there is no information currently available as to the cause of the shooting, or if suspects have been taken into custody. Sometime shortly after police arrived on the scene, there was another shooting nearby on Lakewood Trail SE, but authorities do not believe the two shootings to be connected. (Fox 5 Atlanta)
- Recently re-elected Governor Brian Kemp is hitting the ground running for state and local Republicans ahead of elections next year. Per gubernatorial advisor Cody Hall, ramped-up political activity by the governor's office is meant to help consolidate and defend Georgia Republicans' political gains in preparation to contest increasingly scarce battleground districts in the state's suburbs. The governor's electoral hit list includes Representative Michelle Au from Johns Creek, who is holding a seat Republicans believe they can take in 2024. (Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
- People in nearby Roswell and Sandy Springs are saying that someone is leaving flyers and pamphlets on their properties that attack both Jewish and transgender people. It's not clear who is distributing the flyers, as they were left overnight, and no one has seen the person or people responsible. State Senator Josh McLaurin, D-Sandy Springs, commented: "Any time you make up lies to accuse an entire group of people, what you're doing is laying the foundation of evil behavior to justify violence against them." Police are currently investigating whether the flyers, left in neighborhoods in Roswell, Sandy Springs, and across Fulton County, are all being distributed by the same people, and whether they are in violation of the law.
