Here are the top three stories in Johns Creek today:
- Impact Johns Creek, a nonprofit that aims to increase the civic footprint of Black Johns Creek residents, has decided to continue planning its own Juneteenth celebration after Johns Creek Mayor John Bradberry announced the city’s intention to celebrate the holiday. On Mar. 20, Impact Johns Creek Founder Nicole Washington wrote an email to City Council that said Impact Johns Creek intends to celebrate on their own instead of combining the Juneteenth events. She wrote, "This will ensure everything is culturally appropriate for such a reverential, ceremonial, sensitive, and celebratory event. We wish the City of Johns Creek well, in what was described to City Council as a ‘party’ in its first attempt at producing a Juneteenth event." The city's event will take place at Newtown Park on Jun. 17. Impact Johns Creek event details are still being decided. (Appen Media)
- Eight new members were appointed to the Recreation and Parks Advisory Committee by the Johns Creek City Council. Michael Aletaris, Bill Rahm, Paul Via, Eddie Rockwell, Cathy Bernard, Erin Eggerton, Jordan Stastny, and Olivia Mitrovich were appointed to the 15-member committee and will serve two-year terms until Feb. 28, 2025. - On Mar. 27, the Fulton County DUI Treatment Court announced the State Court accountability court will now be called the Treatment Recovery Court. The court changed the name to better reflect its mission of providing supervision, treatment programs, and more as an alternative to incarceration for those who have been convicted of multiple violations of Driving Under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicants. From our sponsor:
Are you a Johns Creek resident looking for an investment alternative to the stock market? Consider fine art. Masterworks is the award-winning platform helping 670,000+ people invest in works by the same world-renowned artists that are coveted by ultra-wealthy collectors and major museums alike (think Picasso, Basquiat, and Banksy.) Masterworks securitizes artworks by qualifying offerings with the SEC, allowing YOU to invest in shares of multi-million dollar paintings.
Contemporary art has outpaced the stock market by a whopping 131% over the last 26 years. All 11 of Masterworks’ sales have been profitable, the last 3 realizing 10.4%, 35%, and 13.9% net returns respectively.*
