Here are the top three stories today in Johns Creek:

  1. For the first time in 30 years, the Corky Kell Classic will feature two private schools facing off against each other. Fellowship Christian will play Johns Creek's Mount Pisgah Christian at 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 19. Fellowship is now in Class 2A, while Mount Pisgah remains in Class A. The small private schools benefit from playing in the Corky Kell Classic because public schools rarely choose to play them, as the latter makes money from ticket sales and private schools offer a small fanbase. (Score Atlanta)
  2. Four vehicle break-ins have been logged on the same street where Johns Creek Police were notified of a vehicle break-in on Jul. 5. The first victim said he found his car door slightly opened on the morning of Jul. 6, as well as items strewn about the inside. In all five break-ins, the only items missing from the vehicles were a measuring tape, a wallet with cards and some cash, and a hammock. (Appen Media)
  3. Following some shoplifting and disorderly contact on Jul. 8, Johns Creek police have charged the Snellville man involved. The man allegedly stole equipment from the Home Depot on State Bridge Road and ran out of the store when police arrived. After the chase, the man fell and injured himself. He was taken to Emory in Johns Creek before being released with charges and a court date. (Appen Media)

From my notebook:

  • Although the Johns Creek real estate market is so hot right now, there are a few properties that survived the weekend open house frenzy. Most are single-family homes for $600k and up, but there is a townhouse available for $380k. (Johns Creek Patch)

  • Starting in September, the Johns Creek Arts Center is offering adaptive art classes for disabled students in grades six through eight. The adaptive classes will feature tools such as a visual scheduler in the classroom to best support the students. (Johns Creek Arts Center via Facebook)
