Here are the top three stories in Johns Creek today:
- The Johns Creek police department briefed the public on active shooter protocols at City Hall. Using recordings or reenactments of gunfire and screams, Police Public Information Officer Lt. Deb Kalish instructed members of the public on what to do in the instance of an active shooter. Kalish noted that the turnout was the best she's ever had for the class and that attendance is always higher when active shooter events occur. One of the techniques stressed during the class was to take action immediately instead of waiting for someone else to do so. (Appen Media)
- With school starting soon, the city of Johns Creek is encouraging its drivers to prioritize safety. The city Transportation Engineer, Sarah Swing, demonstrated crosswalk safety for the public and reminds drivers to slow down in school zones. As summer ends, there will be more cars, buses, and pedestrians out and about, increasing the risks of accidents and injuries. (City of Johns Creek, Georgia - Government via Facebook)
- Johns Creek Police responded to two reports of mail theft within a day of each other. A resident on State Bridge Road reported two individuals prying open several mailboxes back on Jun. 28. The victim said this was the fifth time in a month that mail has been stolen. Checks that were stolen from the mail were erased and written over. (Appen Media)
