Here are the top three stories in Johns Creek today:

  1. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta airport is receiving $40 million to expand Concourse D. 85 airports across the country are receiving similar federal funding for expansions and repairs. Concourse D, the selected concourse to expand, is 40 years old and the airport aims to modernize the terminal as well. The expansion will also provide hundreds of jobs during its construction. (11 Alive)
  2. The closure of Duluth's main street will continue until at least the end of July. While implementing stormwater upgrades in the popular downtown, construction crews discovered unmarked utilities. City officials plan to "make the most" of the ongoing project and will utilize closed-off areas whenever possible for outdoor dining or live music. They also have stated that access to Town Green and all downtown businesses will remain available. (Gwinnett Daily Post)
  3. A Fulton County judge has denied bond for rapper Gunna on RICO charges. As this is not the first time the judge has denied bond in this case, it is likely that Gunna, Sergio Kitchens, will remain in jail until the time of his trial next year. The sweep that arrested Kitchens also arrested 27 other people, including rapper Young Thug, who prosecutors allege are members of the Young Slime Life (YSL) gang. While prosecutors allege Kitchens is a high-ranking member of the gang, he maintains his innocence. (Fox5 Atlanta)

Are you a Johns Creek resident looking for an investment alternative to the stock market?

Bloomberg recently asked experts where they’d invest $100,000 right now, and many of them had the same answer: fine art.

Thinking you can’t afford a Picasso? Well in 2012, Congress passed the JOBS Act, which allowed for the securitization of artwork. A company called Masterworks.io built the largest platform for buying and selling art securities. In the past, you could only buy shares of companies like Apple, but with this investing app, you can unlock this powerful investment.

Meaning, you can invest in shares of million-dollar artwork. And in uncertain times, it turns out, fine art may be a wise investment. Here’s why:

  • Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
  • Contemporary art historically returns 23.2% when inflation is >3%
  • Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164% (1995-2021)
