Artists Day Brings Authentic Art to Barnwell
Barnwell's art instructor Melissa Nail was surprised at the assembly with a visit from the Savannah College of Art and Design Buzz Team.
Barnwell Elementary hosted its Second Annual Artists Day, featuring eighteen different authentic and local artists.
The artists represented various areas of fine and preforming arts. Unique student centered workshops throughout the day featured ice sculpting, pottery, dance, music, painting, screen printing, and animation. The special day also included a special assembly that highlighted the Manga African Dance Troupe.
Barnwell’s art instructor Melissa Nail was surprised at the assembly with a visit from the Savannah College of Art and Design(S.C.A.D.) Buzz Team. The Design Buzz Team honors art educators for their contributions to the arts. The S.C.A.D. Team presented two thousand dollars’ worth of new art supplies to the Barnwell students.

The Barnwell students were inspired by the numerous types of artists and art forms presented in the workshops.
"I liked learning about pottery," said, fifth grade student Lauren Bates. "It is amazing that you can make such beautiful things from objects that come from the earth."
