Here are the top three stories in Johns Creek today:

  1. A local woman was the target of attempted fraud via Instagram. On Jan. 7, the woman (whose identity had not been published) told the Johns Creek Police Department that an Instagram user offered her $500 to paint a portrait of her; she sent the individual her checking account number and received $3,000 in her account. Suspicious of the exchange, the woman voided the checks at the bank, after which she received threatening text messages. She stated her plan to block all communication, as well as ensure the bank would return the funds. (Appen Media)
  2. Are you attending the city's Lunar New Year Celebration this Saturday, Jan. 21? The whole community is welcome to come to the Mark Burkhalter Amphitheatre in Newtown Park between 1:00-4:00 p.m. Guests can enjoy local food and vendors, cultural performances, and activities for children.
