Centennial High School Takes Top Awards at GA National Fair Youth Art Contest

ROSWELL, GA - Centennial High School had a very strong showing at the Georgia National Fair Youth Art Contest, which took place October 6-16, 2016 in Perry, Georgia at the Georgia National Fair. The Youth Art Contest is a highly competitive juried art exhibit, with thousands of works being entered in every category.

A “juried” art exhibit means individual (or group) act as judge of the submitted artworks, selecting which are to be shown. If prizes are to be awarded, the judge or panel of judges will usually select the prize winners as well.

Students from Centennial High School have competed in this exhibition for over 15 years and have placed every year. “Just showing at the Georgia National Fair is a big deal,” said John Riggins, AP Art Teacher at Centennial High School. “To place in the Georgia National Fair means that the students work was at the top of their category, often with hundreds of works in the competition for that specific category. I couldn’t be more proud of these students on their endeavors.”

Out of 50 works submitted this year, six students in the Centennial Art program placed at the Fair. Of note, Karis Wang took First Place in Pen and Ink Drawing for the 9-10th grade for her work entitled, “Living in Vein.” This work also earned the Youth Georgia Award of Excellence, the Youth Art Best in Category Award and the Bank of Perry Youth Art Merit Award.
