  1. A child was left asleep inside Johns Creek O2B Kids daycare during a fire on Friday, Apr. 14. According to daycare staff, the fire began when a box was left on a stove in the daycare's kitchen. The child's parent — a daycare employee — realized that their child was not outside during a roll call after the evacuation. The daycare's cook safely retrieved the child from the building. Local fire department officials have had multiple drills with daycare staff since the incident but some parents have expressed skepticism about the daycare's response to local news. (WSB-TV)
  2. Fulton County Jail will be moving more than 600 of its inmates to facilities in other counties as the investigation into the death of inmate Lashawn Thompson continues. Thompson was found dead and covered in insects in September of last year after being detained on a misdemeanor battery charge. Fulton County Sheriff Patrick Labat has told the press that the jail is experiencing an outbreak of infectious disease as well as an infestation of bed bugs. The sheriff's office has promised $500,000 for insect extermination, updated security protocols, and new staff for its mental health unit, on top of transferring inmates out of the facility. (UPI)
  3. Former Atlanta city councilman and mayoral candidate Antonio Brown has been sentenced to 18 months probation for lying on a bank loan application. The judgment comes after a grand jury indictment in 2020 that haunted his 2021 mayoral campaign. Brown admitted to lying about his income on a 2017 application for a $75,000 bank loan and has taken a plea deal. He will serve the first eight months of his probation confined to his home.
