City Allows Emory Johns Creek Hospital Expansion

The City Council voted to remove a condition of zoning that capped the number of hospital beds to 110.

JOHNS CREEK, GA — The Johns Creek City Council on Monday voted to remove a stipulation that will allow a local hospital to add more beds to its facility. Council members at their Nov. 26 meeting approved a change in zoning condition on land at 6325 and 6335 Hospital Parkway that eliminates a 110-bed cap for Emory Johns Creek Hospital.

The approval will allow Emory Healthcare to move forward with plans to expand its ability to serve the Johns Creek community. The land, which contains two medical office buildings, is zoned office-industrial, and the zoning condition stems from a case dating back to when the city was unincorporated. The two buildings total 406,982 square feet, and the parcel features 1,049 parking spaces.

According to city documents, Emory Healthcare said its requesting the removal of the condition so it could expand its number of hospital beds. It's seeking to convert about 62,000 square feet of office space to accommodate 40 additional hospital beds. Johns Creek notes the change will have no bearing on hours and manner of operation, as the hospital will remain open 24 hours a day and seven days a week throughout the year.
