Here are the top three stories in Johns Creek today:

  1. On Wednesday, May 3, the family of an inmate who died in a bedbug-infested cell at the Fulton County Jail appeared before the Fulton County Board of Commissioners to demand action. In September, just three months after being booked into the jail on a misdemeanor charge, 35-year-old Lashawn Thompson's body was found covered in bed bugs and insects in a cell on the psychiatric floor. Thompson's brother Brad McCray said, "We came to the Board of Commissioners to talk to them and see what they're doing about the issue. We haven't heard from anybody. We want to know how it happened in their jail, what they're doing about it, and who's being held accountable from the bottom to the top." (Fox 5 Atlanta)
  2. Construction crews continue to work on the Jones Bridge Road trail and bike lane project between Douglas and McGinnis Ferry roads. The pedestrian connectivity project will fill two sidewalk gaps with trail and bike lanes, but will not widen or add vehicular travel lanes to this section. The project is expected to be completed later this year. Click here to learn more about the project and for more details on the latest update. (City of Johns Creek via Twitter)
  3. The Fulton County Department of Public Works will celebrate Drinking Water Week (NDWW), from May 7-13, by "inviting the public to learn how truly vital clean, safe water is in daily life and its role in protecting public health and the environment now and in the future." Events include a "Water Quality Pop-Up" on May 9 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at North Fulton Service Center and a "Drinking Water Facility Tour" on May 10 from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Tom Lowe Atlanta-Fulton County Water Treatment Plant.
