  1. The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a Fulton County jail inmate allegedly dug a hole through a wall to attack another inmate. According to investigators, Rice Street inmate Kavian Thomas was accused of "digging a hole through a shower wall which gave him access to the adjacent cell block where Derondney Russell was attacked” on Wednesday, May 17. As of May 21, Russell is at a medical facility getting treatment for multiple stab wounds to his upper body. Some of the weapons found after the attack included shanks made from parts of the jail's “dilapidated building structure.” Interim Fulton County Jail commander Curtis Clark said, "This jail has clearly outlived its useful life." (Atlanta News First)
  2. On May 7, Johns Creek Police were called to an in-progress home burglary on Bedford Garden Drive. When police arrived, the homeowner’s son and his girlfriend were hiding in a locked bedroom, and the suspects were running through the woods. The officers heard the suspects open and close their car doors and sped away. As of May 20, the suspects have not been arrested, and the investigation is ongoing. (Appen Media)
  3. Myles Hinton, a native of Johns Creek, entered the college transfer portal after playing football for Stanford University on a full scholarship for three years. The University of Michigan offered Hinton a scholarship, which he accepted and joined the Big Ten Conference. But according to NCAA statistics, Hinton was one of the lucky ones. Between August 2021 and July 2022, statistics show that more than 20,900 Division I student-athletes entered the transfer portal, but only about 12,000 made it to another college. (NPR)
