Here are the top three stories in Johns Creek today:

  1. Fulton County Sheriff Patrick “Pat” Labat said the Fulton County Jail needs to be replaced after a shakedown revealed over 200 homemade knives made out of pieces of broken walls. The Mar. 15 search made Labat realize that a new building is "vital to the protection of our staff and detainees in our care. Inmates are literally crafting shanks from the crumbling walls of the dilapidated facility." A new jail could cost about $2 billion. (11 Alive)
  2. A local man reported a dating site scam to the Johns Creek Police on Mar. 5. According to the victim, he used the dating site called “asstok.com” and paid $800 for a date at the Hyatt Place Atlanta off Medlock Bridge Road on Feb. 11. The woman never showed up and the victim reported the money as fraud to his bank and received a refund. He was then threatened by a male via text message and email, who said he would behead him if he didn't send $2,500. (Appen Media)
  3. The Georgia House voted to pass an amended version of Senate Bill 140 on Thursday, Mar. 16. The bill would ban surgical and hormonal treatment for those under the age of 18 with gender dysphoria and prosecute doctors who do treat them. Rep. Dr. Michelle Au (D-50, Johns Creek), an anesthesiologist and master of public health, said, "Simply put, SB140 amounts to state-mandated malpractice. Why should politicians be able to pass laws that supersede established medical care standards? And what patient would prefer their medical care be directed by a politician rather than a doctor?" (The Clayton Crescent)
