Here are the top three stories today in Johns Creek:

  1. There are several Johns Creek-area homes available for purchase. Typically, August is the best month of the year for purchasing a home as the market slows a bit in both competition and price. Although this year is still being influenced by the housing boom due to COVID, many experts foresee a market crash on the horizon. (Johns Creek Patch)
  2. The Georgia State shortstop Griffin Cheney has been drafted in the ninth round of the MLB draft. On Monday, Cheney was selected by the Rangers, making him the third-highest pick in the program's history. Cheney, who hails from Johns Creek, was 259th in the overall draft. (The Atlanta Journal Constitution, Subscription)
  3. Some north Fulton County communities have moved away from arresting people. Instead, they are giving out tickets for certain crimes, like drunk driving. Channel 2 found that Johns Creek had booked 153 people, Alpharetta booked 203, Roswell booked 420, and Milton booked 51 from January to June. Milton police Captain Charles Barstow says police will take you to jail for felony crimes such as armed robbery or domestic violence, but ticket and release you for other crimes like driving on a suspended license or DUI. Barstow points to the closure of the north Fulton County jail annex as the reason for the discrepancy. (WSB Atlanta)
