Here are the top three stories today in Johns Creek:
- Residents have dropped off more than 20,000 pounds of glass at the glass recycling bin at Ocee Park in Johns Creek, which opened in early October. Johns Creek Assistant to the City Manager Olivia Ammons said many residents were frustrated because local waste haulers no longer accept glass curbside. Now the community can recycle any color glass, as long as residents remove lids and rinse the glass before drop-off. (Appen Media)
- Johns Creek resident Heather Quiggle, who was shot six times on Dec. 19 by her ex-boyfriend Abdul Batin Azzaam Rashid, spoke about the night of the incident. Both Quiggle and her boyfriend, who was shot three times, survived the attack in her home on Plantation Bridge Drive. Quiggle said, "He just opened the door and started firing on us." Her son, Seth, heard the shots and ran to the neighbor's house for help. Police said Rashid, who was found the next day, killed himself. (11Alive.com WXIA)
- On Dec. 15, a woman contacted the Johns Creek Police Department after almost getting scammed. A man, who called her pretending to be her son, said he was in jail on a DUI charge. He also said he had broken his nose, which is why his voice sounded different. A person claiming to be his lawyer reached out and said to get $28,000 for the alleged son's bail. As the woman started to get the money together, her real son called and she realized she was being scammed. The woman did not lose any money, but she had given the caller her home address and was concerned. (Appen Media)
