Here are the top three stories today in and around Johns Creek:

  1. A massive multi-agency drug bust started with a traffic stop involving local, state, and federal agencies. A Forsyth County Sheriff's Deputy reportedly found 70 pounds of methamphetamine in the trunk of a car they had pulled over on Georgia Highway 400 for suspicion of a DUI. Brian Vasquez, 28, of Roswell, and Maria Romero Vega, 20, of Gainesville, who had been driving, were charged with trafficking cocaine and methamphetamine. The Johns Creek and Forsyth Task Force, the DEA Atlanta Strike Force, the FBI, the Appalachian Drug Task Force, and other local agencies launched an investigation that took them to a warehouse in Alpharetta, where they seized numerous drugs, including fentanyl and heroin. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
  2. The Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis is petitioning the court to retry the murder case against Claud Lee "Tex" McIver III after the Georgia Supreme Court overturned his conviction. The Supreme Court found there was enough evidence at trial for a rational jury to conclude beyond a reasonable doubt that McIver was guilty of the crimes for which he was convicted. In 2018, McIver was convicted of felony murder and possession of a firearm in the death of his wife, Diane. A woman present at the shooting said McIver shot his wife from the backseat of a car. (Fox 5 Atlanta)
  3. Macy’s recently announced the planned opening of four off-mall, small-format stores in the coming months, including one near Johns Creek. Market by Macy’s is being billed as a "smaller store that offers customers more to love with its curated assortment of fashion trends." It will open in Johns Creek Town Centre (3630 Peachtree Pkwy, Suwanee) on Aug. 20. The store marks the third Macy's location in the metro-Atlanta area. (Fibre2Fashion)
