Here are the top three stories today in Johns Creek:

  1. A Johns Creek couple found their home on Bent Tree View ransacked when they returned from dinner on Feb. 4. The Johns Creek Police Department (JCPD) found the back door smashed and clothing and other items strewn about. Police also noticed that three safes in the home had been opened. The victims said that $500 previously on the kitchen counter was gone, but that was the only missing item initially noticed due to the state of the home. The couple was told to list all items taken and give them to the JCPD detective. (Appen Media)
  2. On May 6, Johns Creek Beautification will host its fourth annual Secret Garden Tour at the Autrey Mill Nature Preserve. The tour features six home gardens with a musical ensemble or solo performer and visual artists for each one. The proceeds support public art in Johns Creek, a citywide daffodil planting to raise awareness of cancer survivors, and planting daffodils in Newtown Park to honor veterans. Artists, entertainers, and volunteers for parking and education are needed for the tour; you can apply here. If you purchase a tour pass from Mar. 1 through Mar. 31, it will cost $30, but beginning on Apr. 1, the cost will increase to $35. (Appen Media)
  3. Georgia Tech baseball will honor Jim Poole, a former Yellow Jacket and Major League Baseball relief pitcher diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), by choosing a student-athlete every year to wear his No. 21 jersey. After 11 years in the major leagues, Poole served as the pitching coach at Johns Creek High School in 2010. Senior catcher Jack Rubenstein was chosen to wear Poole's No. 21 jersey this year for embodying Poole’s ideals of "self-determination, a strong academic work ethic, and high moral fiber on and off the field."
