  1. Fulton County proposed charging cities $9.38 per registered voter for this fall's municipal elections, a dramatic increase from $2.96 per registered voter in 2021. Johns Creek and other metro-Atlanta cities are following Milton's lead to save tens of thousands of local tax dollars by running their own elections. Johns Creek City Councilwoman Erin Elwood is concerned about the approaching Mar. 1 deadline and said that a rushed decision could affect the "legitimacy of this institution." Johns Creek City Councilman Chris Coughlin recommended pursuing negotiations with Fulton County to bring down the cost of elections and explore the idea of self-run elections at the same time. 2. A woman called the Johns Creek Police Department from Tulsa, Oklahoma on Jan. 13 to report a fraudulent check. The suspect forged a business check for $210,000 and tried to deposit it at the United Community Bank on McGinnis Ferry Road in Johns Creek. The woman said she was able to tell the check was forged because the watermark and other small details were not the same. (Appen Media)
  3. Bridgette Marques, the former principal of State Bridge Crossing Elementary in Johns Creek, filed a lawsuit against the Fulton County School District and is seeking back pay, front pay, and loss of benefits. Marques claims the school district retaliated against her after she reported alleged racist comments made by Timothy Corrigan, a former associate superintendent in the Fulton County School District. After the allegations, Corrigan opened an investigation into Marques' attendance record. According to the lawsuit, the district decided to terminate her employment after Corrigan's investigation.
