Here are the top three stories today in Johns Creek:

  1. Forsyth County Sheriff's Office (FCSO) pursued a DUI charge on the woman driver after she fled both Johns Creek Police and FCSO on Dec. 13. According to the JCPD, a gray 2018 GMC Terrain going westbound on McGinnis Ferry Road was speeding — at the highest point, over 98 mph — while fleeing police. The vehicle reportedly ran a red light and violated several other traffic violations. FCSO caught up to the GMC after it had crashed on Jones Bridge Road near Douglas Road. (Appen Media)
  2. On Dec. 7, a Johns Creek man allegedly threatened to shoot a bartender at a bar on Medlock Bridge Road. The bartender, who chose not to prosecute, told Johns Creek Police officers that the intoxicated man was also using racial slurs and making patrons uncomfortable. The bar manager, who volunteered to drive the drunk man back home on his golf cart, said he normally does not act this way. (Appen Media)
  3. The City of Johns Creek warned residents about a cold front forecasted for later this week. The coldest temperatures of the year are expected Friday night, Dec. 23, into Saturday, Dec. 24. The City posted a few cold weather tips, including not using gas heaters indoors, checking for dripping faucets in sinks to reduce the chance of frozen pipes, and keeping a winter survival kit in your vehicle. • A recent study from Georgia State University (GSU) shows that the return to in-person learning did not substantially improve student achievement in Fulton, Clayton, and DeKalb counties. Tim Sass, the director of GSU's Metro Atlanta Policy Lab for Education (MAPLE), said, "What we found was that the return in-person learning sort of stopped the decline in achievement growth, but there wasn't much improvement. So, things kind of bottomed out. In-person learning alone doesn't seem to be enough to get kids back to where they were pre-pandemic." (WABE News)
  • Johns Creek PD told drivers not to use flashers while driving in the rain! According to JCPD, flashers make it extremely difficult for drivers to know if you are braking or changing lanes, it can reduce the ability to see, and it confuses other drivers. JCPS recommends driving with headlights on and flasher/hazards off in the rain. (Johns Creek PD via Twitter)
