Johns Creek Graduate Recognized As National Merit Scholars

A Johns Creek graduate is among more than 1,000 additional Merit Scholarship recipients from around the county who will receive funding.

JOHNS CREEK, GA — One recent Johns Creek high school graduate is among more than 1,000 additional Merit Scholarship recipients from around the county who will receive funding for college over the next four years.

The recipient, who was announced Monday, joins more than 3,100 other National Merit Scholarship award winners who were named earlier this year. Officials from each sponsor college or university selected scholarship winners from among the finalists of the National Merit Scholarship Program. College-sponsored financial awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution sponsoring the award.

More than 4,100 National Merit Scholarships were awarded by 160 (85 private, 75 public) colleges and universities across the country. The scholarship recipients will receive a total of nearly $30 million. In addition to the scholarships awarded by the schools, 2,500 National Merit Scholarships worth $2,500 apiece were awarded along with 1,000 corporate-sponsored awards were handed out for finalists who met specific criteria.
